Terra Nova prevents 150 families from being ousted

16/06/2016

Nearly 150 families living at the Jardim Pedra Branca Community, in São Paulo’s far east end, will no longer be forced to leave their homes. Following years of court battles, solicitors of the state of São Paulo’s Public Defender Service succeeded in reversing a decision that called for the return of the land to its original owners and are now mediating its acquisition by means of an already-approved judicial agreement.

The agreement was reached through a land-regularization company that negotiated the payment of a sum to the legal owners. It will now carry out an assessment in order to divide the land among the families living on it.
